WHAT 21ST CENTURY

HOME BUYERS WANT

  • Buyers of new homes want larger houses with lots of space.

  • Large kitchens adjacent to family rooms with the two rooms divided by a half wall or open.

  • Upscale features such as high ceilings and island work areas in the kitchen.

  • Exterior features such as a front porch, deck or patio in the rear and exterior lighting.

  • Laundry room and dining rooms are essential.

  • While consumers want large kitchens, most are reluctant to see the kitchen expand further at the expense of family room spaces.

  • Some home buyers want homes that are significantly larger than the homes being sold.

  • Two out of three home buyers prefer nine-foot or higher ceilings on the first floor.

  • Most home buyers want a two or three car garage.

  • Linen closest top the list of bathroom features.

  • Home buyers want more storage space.

  • Park areas, walking/jogging trails are the top rated community amenities.
