LUMBER COSTS INCREASING Lancasters Intelligencer Journal reported Sept 8th that lumber prices increased up to 20 percent during the past week, which was attributed to the anticipated need in the nations gulf coast region. With the high prices, sales have been brisk as some builders are stocking up to hedge against even higher prices.

HOMEBUILDING
TRADESMEN AND OTHER PROFESSIONALS NEEDED FOR KATRINA Federal disaster agencies are recruiting housing professionals to provide assistance to areas of Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. There is need for experienced engineers, architects, building code officials, insurance adjusters, damage assessors, manufactured home installers, manufactured home inspectors and others in related fields. Those that elect to help will be compensated. Commitments of 60 to 90 days, where workers would be on duty seven days a week, are required. For more information, please call Richard St Onge at (703)481-2031 or Shyam Choudhary at (703)481-2002.
CREDIT
REPORTS AVAILABLE, BUT BE AWARE Free credit reports finally reached our region Sept 1st, allowing Pennsylvania residents to request a copy of their credit reports from each of the three major credit bureaus on an annual basis. Some experts recommend people request a report every four months, rather than getting one from each agency at once. Visit https://www,annualcreditreport.com to request a report, but make sure you spell the address correctly, as dozens of impostor sites (many with similar names)trick people into providing their personal information. By the time they realize the truth, the owners of the impostor sites likely have used the information to commit identify theft or fraud, ironically the impetus of the law requiring the real agencies to provide free annual reports. To avoid this possibility entirely, request your report by phone at (877)322-8228. |
