THE NEW HOME OFFICE The
days of double duty for the dining room table are over. The home office has gained in popularity over the years and
now ranks as one of the most often requested spaces in a new home.
According to a consumer survey conducted by the NAHB well over half
(58%) of consumers gave the home office priority ranking. That
statistic is supported by another study from In-Stat/MDR that shows nearly
44 million individuals or a third of the U.S. workforce expected to work
regularly at home or at least part-time in 2004.
Factors, such as the desire to stay closer to family, avoid the
stress of the office, and cut back on commuting time, coupled with the
need to extend the work day (due in part to downsizing), have translated
to increased interest in telecommuting among employees and new
entrepreneurs and the need for a home office.
The
new home office in evolving. Many
people who work from home want to have the look and feel of permanence and
stability, whether or not they actually have clients to their office.
Todays office typically features built-in cabinetry, special
lighting, wiring for high-speed data access and extra outlets for the
necessary computer equipment. Gone
are the metal file cabinet and makeshift furnishings. But
over all, the functionality of the home office is most important.
Consumers are looking for deep desk drawers, file cabinets and
extra cabinets to keep clutter out of sight.
Whether the home office is used by an at-home worker or a parent
trying to keep the household organized, the new home office has become an
essential in todays home. Article provided by PBA
